Trying to connect with c-level executives can feel like a doomed task but using a few tried and true tips can help you start a productive conversation.
1. Don’t leave a voicemail right out of the gates. Instead, try reaching them three to five times before you leave the first voicemail, perseverance can be very useful.
2. The first thing to do when speaking with an executive is to figure out their style of communication. If they are laid back and receptive or tense and combative will have a big impact on the correct approach.
3. If it seems like the executive is willing to spend a little time on the phone, connect about something that doesn’t involve your pitch first. Rapport building techniques are useful to relax the mood before pitching.
4. Once you’ve said your piece, let the executive talk and don’t interrupt. C-level executives are used to having people’s attention and many don’t respond well to being interrupted.
